The newly formed Alto Sutton Neighborhood Response Group (NRG), a pilot program of the City of Mill Valley, was a hub of activity over the Memorial Day Weekend for local Dorset Lane Block Captains (BCs) Alicia Contreras, Bob Hemstock, Chris Hubbard and Cynthia Witwicki.
To prepare for the exercise, Block Captain Cynthia held a training session for her fellow Block Captains on her front lawn, while 4 neighborhood children assembled and distributed “Meet your Block Captains” door hangar invitations to 26 nearby homes.
On Sunday, May 24, wearing red vests and carrying walkie talkies, the 2 pairs of Block Captains met neighbors on Dorset Lane, maintaining social distance by staying on the sidewalk, while the neighbors stayed in their front yards. Neighbors received OK/HELP signs, Wildfire Evacuation Checklists, and Emergency Contact Cards. Out of the 26 homes contacted, all 22 who were home were receptive and engaged, and in process of signing up for our Alto Sutton NRG newsletter! In addition, 1 neighbor agreed to reach out to her network of 40 other neighbors in Alto Sutton to promote Alto Sutton NRG.
